Guaruma works on local ecotourism and community development projects in the Cangrejal River watershed.
We offer guided nature hikes in the Pico Bonito/Cangrejal River area. Guaruma provides students with training to insure that all of our student guides are knowledgeable about the biodiversity of the tropical forest. They use the nature trails surrounding their town to teach about flora and fauna found in their backyards. By using the local natural resources for tourism services we are able to generate income for the communities and raise environmental consciousness in Honduras.
Working on the basis that communal gain is of utmost importance, Guaruma supported the construction of community run cabins and a restaurant in Las Mangas. Today, “Cabañas Aventuras del Bosque” offers a quiet refuge and wonderful food and is managed by local leaders.
We currently have trails in Las Mangas and La Muralla. Both of our trails pass several beautiful places to swim and provide excellent opportunities to observe the flora and fauna of this unique area.
Guaruma Trail (2 hours) The trail has two segments and ends at a freshwater pool where you can bathe in pristine waters. During this trail you will be able to see different species of flora and fauna in the tropical forest; such as fruit trees, medicinal plants and a variety of insects. |
